Vinessens with Humble Grape

A great gathering with Humble Grape live from the Vinessens (meaning ‘vine sense’) vineyard in Alicante. We heard from winemaker Andrés Carull, about his wonderful expressions of Monastrell. He & his wife use organic and biodynamic practices and Andrés says the vines “are not ours, they belong to our children.” Carlos from Humble Grape ran a really interesting and educational session where we not only learnt about the wines but also how climate change is effecting the vineyards in Alicante.

A really well-structured hour long Insta Live! Humble Grape run Winemaker Live Chats every Tuesday - if you want in on next week’s gathering with Matic Wines, then you need to order by midday today!

What we learnt

Carbonic Maceration (brilliantly explained by Andrés!) - the wine is made using whole bunches of grapes - no de-stemming or crushing - fermentation happens inside the grape berry, the gas inside causes the berry to break, setting the juices free. This extracts more aroma and colours without too much tannin.

The wine

Scandalo
£16.75
🍇 Monastrell
A dangerously (or Scandalously!) easy to drink, delicious expression of Monastrell. Andrés uses his youngest Monastrell & grapes are picked earlier, to give freshness. Carbonic maceration avoids the wine being overly tannic.
Gather with some tapas, of course!

El Telar 2016
£40.25
🍇 Monastrell
A beautifully balanced expression of Monastrell with dark fruit, dried figs, herbs & smoke.
Gather with a steak or enjoy snuggled up by the fire with a book!
