After gathering with Bartinney & Humble Grape, South Africa is on the post-lockdown travel list - check out their vineyard cottages!

A small, boutique family-owned vineyard on a mountain above Stellenbosch - up to 550m above sea level - Bartinney is home to husband & wife, Rose & Michael Jordaan, who repurchased Michael's family vineyard, nursing it back to health with the philosophy “to do better and do the right thing by nature.”

With the help of winemaker Ronell, they have breathed new life & passion to Bartinney by respecting the indigenous flora & fauna, recognised by the WWF with a conservation award. The devil (or delight in Bartinney's case!) is in the detail as Rose, originally a geologist, explains “we know our rows!” and so do the local baboons and leopards that are often found roaming them!

What we learnt

Élevage is a French term used to describe a wine's progression from fermentation to bottling. It means to raise or elevate and to bring out the noble traits, which is exactly what Bartinney have achieved with their wines.

The wines

Gather with pork or poultry.

Bartinney Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
